Dessert

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

I didn’t get a great shot of Aprille’s cool dessert last night, but it was too good not to share with the world. One thing I admire and love about Aprille is that when she thinks something is interesting, she figures out how to do it herself. And I usually get to eat it afterwards. It’s a win-win situation.

Tripod Fun

Monday, August 29th, 2005

Angled tripod shot of a chandelier.

I’m obsessed with getting a new tripod right now, so I was playing around with my extremely cheap and crappy tripod. I have confirmed that it is indeed a crappy tripod, but I liked this shot. When it comes to tripods, I’ve learned three things. One, a tripod is a lifetime investment. Two, a tripod is always too heavy or too expensive or both. And three, you should spend extra and get a good one the first time. Otherwise, you’ll keep upgrading and end up spending more in the long run. Number three is not what I wanted to learn from my research. I wanted to learn where I could buy a great tripod for little money.

Oh well. Feisol tripods are getting good initial reviews. They’re carbon fiber (very light) and small enough to pack. Of course the fancy French company Gitzo has moved on to basalt fiber tripods – la di da. I’ll probably get the Feisol or a Bogen in a month or so. Bogen is a great brand, but I’d probably buy one of their aluminum models.

And don’t even ask me about tripod heads. I haven’t figured them out yet.

Wedding Pictures

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

My cousin Mark sent me some more pictures from the wedding. It looks like people were having fun. I’m happy to see evidence of this since by the end of the evening I was pretty much wandering around in a daze. The first picture is my cousins Nick and Joel. In photo number two, we have my lovely cousins Andrea and Katie. And finally, tearing up the dance floor, are my cousin Shannon and my aunt Angie.

Clydesdales

Photo of two clydesdales and a horseman at the Iowa State Fair.

There’s something about the dusty light in this picture that I really like. The world’s edges seem a bit less sharp in the quiet of a barn.
