I received my new Canon 70-200L f4 lens this evening, and I was able to take a few test images in the back yard. This is a detail of the beautiful sycamore tree in our back yard. The image wasn’t photoshopped at all and yet the colors and sharpness are beautiful. I think I’m going to enjoy this lens.

I went out to the garden last night, and lo and behold there were a couple of onions popping up out of the ground. Considering I planted them a bit late on a whim, I was very pleased. They aren’t very big, but they look good.

Question: How does one know when to harvest an onion?

We bought this hanging basket at the farmer’s market this weekend. I hadn’t heard of straw plants previously, but I love the vibrant colors and unusual texture.

I re-potted a couple of orphaned aloe plants at work. Originally all these plants were in the two black, plastic containers in the back. There was even another container that I forgot to put in the picture, and I ended up with eight in all.

Daffodils are blooming

Spring is here, the daffodils are blooming, and I am back puttering around the garden. I only vaguely know what I’m doing, so I’m recording my adventures in the hopes of improving. There is something very satisfying about getting your hands dirty and watching the seeds of one’s labor grow. I guess you can take the boy off the farm, but you can’t stop him from combining daffodils. Now where’d I park my combine…
